Lexi Parra is a Venezuelan-American photographer and educator currently living in Houston, Texas where she is telling visually-driven, community-minded stories as a Visual Journalist and Editor for the Houston Landing.
Before moving to Houston, she worked as a freelance photojournalist in Caracas, Venezuela and New York, NY, focused on topics that are locally felt, and globally understood like youth culture, migration, the personal effects of inequality and violence, and themes of resilience.
In both stills and motion, she tells complex and empowering stories that reflect life in their honesty, beauty, and intimacy. Her work has been supported by Getty Images and the Pulitzer Center.
She is the community manager at Women Photograph, as well as a member of WP, Diversify Photo and NPPA.
Parra is the founder of Project MiRA , a photo education initiative that fosters visual literacy and empowerment with young women in the barrios of Caracas. Project MiRA has been supported by The US Embassy, Canon USA, and the Davis Peace Prize.
Her degree is in Photography and Human Rights, from Bard College.
